Although there are many different fruits and vegetables we can eat for our health, you should never overlook the power of red beets. They have the ability to thin the blood and remove toxins from the body very effectively.

If you’ve never had the benefit of eating red beets, you are in for a treat. Not only is the following recipe good for you, it is absolutely delicious so that you will want to eat red beets more frequently.

Any type of red beet is going to be good for you. You can eat them raw or you can use this recipe to make them more palatable. In either case, it is something that will be a benefit to you.

Collect the following:

Eight large, fresh beets
one cup vinegar
half a cup of sugar
one and a half tsp whole cloves
One and a half tsp whole allspice
Half a teaspoon of salt

Follow these instructions:

Beets: scrub, then cut off tops to 1 inch.

Put in a Dutch oven and cover with water.

Heat till boiling.

Simmer, covered, for 25 to 30 minutes on low heat, or until tender.

Take out of the water and let cool.

After peeling and slicing, put the beets in a basin and reserve.

Add the vinegar, sugar, cloves, spices, and salt to a small saucepan.

Heat until boiling, about 5 minutes.

Drizzle over the beets.

For at least one hour, refrigerate.

Before serving, drain.
