Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you are asked to pay for the person behind you in a food line? Perhaps you are sitting at Starbucks, McDonald’s, or another fast-food restaurant and the person in front of you paid for your food.
This is nice, and this type of pay-it-forward has made the headlines in many cases. At times, it could even result in people continuing to pay it forward for hours.
It also recently happened again at the Bojangles restaurant. Many people just go to the restaurant to get some chicken or some other type of tasty treat and that is what Darius, a TikTok user was doing.
The problem was, he got stuck in the middle of a random act of kindness and as he was sitting and waiting to pay his $15 bill, the person at the window asked him to pay the $45 bill for the strangers behind him.
Darius had a simple response, perhaps even one that was prepared in advance. He said: “I didn’t sign up to feed the 5000.”
I believe that most of us can understand how he felt. All he wanted was to purchase some reasonable food from Bojangles, but then he was asked to pay three times as much money to feed the people behind him. He was rather shocked at the possibility.
He went on to say that he was not about to bankroll someone’s family dinner or a mini office party. All he wanted to do was get his chicken and be on his way.
Of course, this ended up sparking a debate that has gone around many times in the past. It’s a debate that has people wondering, should you continue this type of behavior or should you put a stop to it?
There are also some who say that this type of random act of kindness only benefits those who work at the restaurant, as they likely get extra money that goes into the tip jar when the chain is eventually broken.
I can’t say that we will have a definite answer from this debate, but it is worth considering.
