Joy Behar Calls Dolly Parton’s Jolene Anti-Feminist And Fans Come Unglued

It seems as if people are willing to debate almost anything these days and there are certainly many people with an opinion. This is especially true on the show The View, where they often debate about some of the most interesting things.

One of the members of The View, Joy Behar started a debate by referring to one of the most beloved country music songs of all time. She said that Jolene, a popular song by Dolly Parton was anti-feminist.

She went on to say that the more recent version of Jolene by Beyoncé was a much better version. This started a debate and it still has people talking.

Behar is well known for speaking her mind and she expressed her preference for the Jolene written by Beyoncé to the producer. She said that in Dolly Parton’s version, there is insecurity and possessiveness, especially since Parton is asking the mistress not to steal her man.

Behar went on to say that it was antifeminist, saying that worried about a man being unfaithful because of the allure of another woman undermines the empowerment of women.

On the other hand, Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé’s version of Jolene has a different perspective. Rather than pleading with the other person in the song, Beyoncé presents a warning that the person should stay away from their relationship.

There were also many who had an opinion on the subject, including Reba McEntire.

Behar went on to praise the version by Beyoncé for having an empowering message. She said that it portrays a woman who is confident and is willing to stand up to the challenges in her relationship.

Dolly Parton also seems to appreciate Beyoncé’s take on the song.

This is one debate that will continue for as long as people are willing to talk about it. Joy Behar opened a can of worms on this one, and not everybody is happy about it.
