Jerry Seinfeld Shakes People Up By Defending ‘Real Men’ And ‘Dominant Masculinity’

We sometimes hear people say things that get under other people’s skin. It’s not that difficult to do and even though people try to be inclusive, they end up excluding people in the process.

Jerry Seinfeld is somebody who is known for voicing his opinion on a wide variety of subjects. He often talks about society and he does it with a hint of comedy, but recently he said something that rubbed many people the wrong way.

He was speaking with Bari Weiss on her Honestly with Bari Weiss podcast when he began talking about masculinity. He has recently talked about the sexual undertones of a film he is making for Netflix that was set in the 1960s and has even apologized for it.

It seems as if he is no longer apologizing, as he said about masculine men: “That’s a real man. I want to be like that someday. No, look at how I dress — like an eight-year-old. I always wanted to be a real man, but I never made it.

“I never really grew up. You don’t want to as a comedian. It’s a childish pursuit, but I miss dominant masculinity.” When they questioned him about toxic masculinity, he said: “Yeah, I get the toxic thing. Thank you, thank you. But still, I like a real man.”

He went on to say: “He felt like one of those guys I wanted to be. He knows how to dress. He knows how to talk.

“He’s charming. He has stories. He’s comfortable at dinner parties, knows how to get a drink. That stuff.”

Seinfeld has made this a matter of discussion in the past. For example, last month he was talking about the show Friends, saying that it stole characters from the Seinfeld show.

There have been others who have also spoken about the similarity between the two shows, and it still remains a matter of debate. We look forward to what he has to say next.
