I think that all of us have gotten lost in some sort of story and we soon find that it has taken over in some way or another. We have seen this over the years, but sometimes it seems as if things have just gone too far.
Miriam Margolyes is somebody who is wondering about Harry Potter fans, because she doesn’t understand why the franchise is so popular. Perhaps you remember her as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films, but she has something to say on the subject.
She may be a legend from the films but when she recently gave an interview with a New Zealand news company, she said that she really doesn’t care much about the franchise. She said: “I worry about Harry Potter fans. They should be over that by now.
“You know, I mean, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children. I think it’s for children. But they get stuck in it.”
She went on to say that she often gets requests from fans to do cameos when they have a wedding that is themed after Harry Potter. She just doesn’t seem to understand it.
She went on to say: “I do cameos and people say ‘oh, I’m having a Harry Potter themed wedding’ and I think ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it.”
The 82-year-old actress has talked about Harry Potter in the past, and it wasn’t always flattering. She admitted that she isn’t a fan of the franchise, although she isn’t against it. She just says that she’s not interested in it.
“I’ve never seen a film. I’ve never seen the books, I’ve never read them. I just pocket the money when it comes and I’m very grateful for it.”
She admits that she is glad she got to be part of the franchise and enjoyed meeting the people, but in her words, it’s “not Charles Dickens.”
