Kelly Clarkson: A Parent’s Perspective on Discipline

As parents, we all face the challenge of finding effective ways to discipline our children. With differing opinions on the matter, it can be quite a controversial topic. One celebrity parent who embraces spanking as a form of discipline is Kelly Clarkson. In a recent radio interview, the talented singer and TV personality opened up about her views on spanking and how it has shaped her parenting style.

A Balanced Approach

Kelly Clarkson, a mother of two beautiful children, River Rose and Remy, shared that she is not opposed to using spanking as a means of discipline. However, she clarifies that she does not advocate for harsh or excessive physical punishment. Instead, Kelly believes in a balanced approach, referring to spanking as a gentle correction when her children misbehave.

Embracing Her Upbringing

Growing up in Texas, where spanking is more commonly accepted as a disciplinary measure, Kelly explains that she experienced spanking at the hands of her own parents. She believes that this form of discipline did not negatively impact her life and sees no reason why it should be considered wrong. In fact, Kelly states that she is a well-rounded individual with a lot of character, which she attributes in part to the discipline she received.

Navigating Public Settings

Kelly acknowledges that disciplining children in public places can be challenging, especially when others may have differing opinions on spanking. Despite this, she remains firm in her belief and sees nothing wrong with using spanking when necessary. Kelly even humorously admits that you might catch her giving a little spanking at the zoo.

Setting Clear Expectations

One key aspect of Kelly’s approach is open communication with her children. Before resorting to spanking, she warns them about the consequences of their behavior and the possibility of a gentle spanking if they continue. This pre-discipline warning has proven to be effective in reducing the frequency of misbehavior.

While Kelly Clarkson’s parenting style may not align with the recommendations of organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics, she firmly believes in disciplining her children according to her own values. Ultimately, every parent has the right to choose the discipline methods that they believe are most effective for their children.
