It may have been many years since Jimmy Carter was president, but he still has an impact on people around the world. This is not only true because of the policies he put in place during his time in office, it is true because of his style of living as well.

When Jimmy Carter graduated from high school in 1941, he dreamed about joining the military like his father. He even went to the Naval Academy, and after he graduated, he got married.

That was in 1946, and he and his wife, Rosalynn, would go on to have four children. They also needed a home, so they built a house in 1961 that is currently valued at $210,000. He continued to live in that home after he left the White House.

He didn’t want to capitalize on the financial benefits of being in the White House so he decided to return to his roots. That isn’t the case with many of the former presidents, but Carter knew that he just didn’t have the ambition to be rich. He lived comfortably after he sold his peanut business, and lived off of his $217,000 annual pension.

This had a positive impact on taxpayers, as he only cost them $456,000 in 2019. Compare that to the other presidents who were alive at the time, who were costing close to $1 million each.

Jimmy Carter also shopped at the local Dollar General store and he didn’t fly privately, he went on commercial flights. He may not be perfect, but he does set a good example in many ways for many people.
